Rigby opens the doors to its new London home

John Rigby & Co. has completed its move to 42 Clapham Manor Street, establishing a new London headquarters designed to bring visitors closer to the craft and history behind its guns.

The Grade II-listed former ballet school has been transformed over three and a half years into a new home for the gunmaker, which celebrated its 250th anniversary in 2025. The ground floor is dedicated to Rigby’s gunmakers, with specialist workshops arranged so that visitors can follow the making of a gun through woodworking, metalworking and finishing. The building also houses the Rigby Academy, an engraving studio, a museum and a showroom.

In the showroom, vaulted ceilings and exposed oak beams frame a display of Rigby’s guns and historic collection. At its centre is Jim Corbett’s rifle, displayed beneath the glass-topped table on which new guns will be presented to clients. It is a tangible connection between the rifles that shaped Rigby’s reputation and those being made in London today.

The move gives the company room to grow after more than a decade at Pensbury Place, where Rigby established its workshop following its return to London. The new premises have been planned around the needs of its gunmakers, with space for their work to be seen and understood by visitors.

Rigby Managing Director Marc Newton said: “Pensbury Place gave us the home we needed to rebuild Rigby, and it will always mean a great deal to us. At Clapham Manor Street, we’ve been able to create the truly extraordinary home we imagined for the next chapter of the company.

“I wanted the gunmakers to be at the heart of it. Visitors will be able to see the skill and care that goes into our guns, then step into a showroom filled with the stories that brought us here. Having Jim Corbett’s rifle at the centre of that room, with every new gun presented above it, says a great deal about what our history and craftsmanship mean to us.”
