London gunmaker John Rigby & Co. continues its rich legacy of active participation in wildlife and habitat conservation projects with the release of 12 exclusive London Best rifles. Chambered in .350 Rigby, each are crafted to support the Habitat for Rhino project in Namibia.

 

Founded a decade ago by Pauline and Robin Hurt, the Habitat for Rhino project has successfully reintroduced a thriving population of white rhinos to the Gamsberg region of Namibia. Despite facing challenges, including the tragic loss of a young bull named Kirby to poaching last year, the project has demonstrated remarkable success. Through dedicated efforts such as anti-poaching initiatives, monitoring, and community engagement, the rhino population has not only survived but has shown an impressive 80 percent survival rate for the 10 calves born at Gamsberg over a decade.

To commemorate and contribute to this vital cause, John Rigby & Co. has produced 12 London Best rifles, as a means to generate significant funds for the Habitat for Rhino project.

Crafted with attention to detail, each rifle boasts a 24-inch barrel adorned with Rigby pattern iron sights, including standard fixed sights regulated at 100 yards, and two folding leaf sights regulated for 200 and 300 yards. The grade seven Turkish walnut stock is complemented by a silver oval and grip cap. The distinctive London orange recoil pad adds elegance to the London best barrel black and oil finish.

These rifles feature quarter coverage of Rigby standard scroll engraving, with the barrel proudly marked “J. Rigby & Co. London” in old English style. The rifles are further adorned with the iconic Habitat for Rhino logo inlaid in the floorplate in multi-colour gold and metal, symbolising the collaboration between the gunmaker and the conservation initiative – a logo personally designed by Pauline Hurt. While a gold Rigby ‘double R’ logo on the grip cap adds the company’s seal of approval.

Each rifle comes in a traditional canvas case, complete with a full set of case accessories. Upgrades include, but are not limited to wood upgrades through to grade 11 and a Holland & Holland-style scope mounting system.

A significant portion of the proceeds from the sale of each rifle will directly support the Habitat for Rhino project. The rifles will be individually engraved with the name of one of the rhinos from the project, emphasising the personal connection between the owner and the cause.
