Leica precision long-range optics – prerequisite for an ethical shot!

Wetzlar, Germany. April 05, 2024. Leica Sport Optics proudly presents the Leica Rangemaster CRF Pro, a newly designed laser rangefinder. This is already the third generation of Leica monocular rangefinders, all of which trace their lineage to the Leica LRF 800 from the 1990s. Launched in 2006, the second-generation Leica CRF 1200 inspired many later models – from other brands, as well.

This new model unites highest-precision laser technology, top optical performance and extensive ballistics calculation programs. The combination with digital options considerably expands the range of functions, heralding a new era in Leica optoelectronics.

Leica Rangemaster CRF Pro – THE ALL-ROUNDER

The new Leica Rangemaster CRF Pro is the ultimate all-rounder among Leica laser rangefinders. This high-end model shines with highest performance in all areas. Fully-equipped, and with a range of up to 2,600 meters, it ticks all the boxes for long-range shooters, alpine hunters and hunters abroad. Thanks to the integrated ballistics program Applied Ballistics UltralightTM, the Leica Rangemaster CRF Pro can calculate point of impact “out of the box”, even in very complex shooting situations (up to 800 meters). To do this, it employs an extensive database and sophisticated algorithms. Users who require trajectory calculations over very long distances (i.e. maximum range) can upgrade to the ballistics program Applied Ballistics Elite®. With Bluetooth® connectivity to the Leica Ballistics App on the smartphone, the Leica Rangemaster CRF Pro is completely at home in the digital world. Settings on the rangefinder can be made very easily using the clear operating graphics on the smartphone display. Likewise, the CRF Pro can connect to Kestrel® devices and Garmin® watches and thus include crosswinds (wind direction and wind speed) in point-of-impact calculation, for example. Wind parameters can also be entered manually. As the pinnacle of the Leica Rangemaster CRF series, it has built-in sensors for angle, air pressure and temperature, as well as a compass. All of these measured values are used to calculate the bullet trajectory and the point of impact with incredible accuracy.

Users can choose from three output types. The simplest output is “EHR”, where the rangefinder takes the shot angle into account and displays the distance equivalent to a straight shot – this is the “equivalent horizontal range”. “Unit correction” displays, in centimeters, the point-of-impact displacement in the target. In other words, the classic holdover plus the lateral deviation. With the “click correction” output, the computer inside the Leica Rangemaster CRF Pro indicates the necessary adjustment of the elevation and windage turrets on the riflescope. This allows the hunter or shooter to always hold dead center: the point of impact is right where the reticle is. Of course, at 300 or 500 meters, a single click has a greater effect than it does at 100 meters. The program calculates this difference and specifies the exact clicks required for elevation and windage (lateral) adjustment.

Another unique feature of the Leica Rangemaster CRF Pro is the tracking system LPT™ (Leica ProTrack). With this system, the hunter can locate, mark, and find any point in the terrain – using the CRF Pro. This point is then displayed on the smartphone via compass, measured range and other parameters. Three options are available: 1. The in-app GPS uses a compass to navigate to the destination. 2. A destination marker is set via Google Maps to find that spot in the terrain. 3. The destination data and marker points of the CRF Pro are automatically synchronized with BaseMap® Pro and used for navigation.

Leica ProTrack makes it possible to safely mark a shot in the field over long distances and to find it reliably. Hunters wanted target guidance a long time; the engineers at Leica Sport Optics introduced this function in the Leica Geovid Pro, and now it is also available in the Leica CRF Pro. The Leica ProTrack function is simple and safe.

“The challenge has been met. The Leica Rangemaster CRF Pro is a high-performance device used for long-range shooting, on alpine hunts, or in difficult weather conditions. It combines an excellent optical system, a powerful laser rangefinder and a built-in ballistics program. Thanks to connectivity with the Leica Ballistics App, the hunter is well-equipped for every situation,” says Matthias Raff, Leica Sport Optics Product Manager.

Bright, crystal-clear optics for superior observation

The Leica Rangemaster CRF Pro has excellent, “best in class” optics – thanks to first-rate workmanship, outstanding materials, and improved, extremely efficient reduction of stray light and reflections. Specially-coated prism surfaces play a role in this. By delivering rich detail, sharpness, contrast, and color fidelity, the optics guarantee unique observation moments and reliable identification of game. Hunters benefit from the extraordinarily wide field of view. A pocket rangefinder with the quality of binoculars.

Precise and speedy laser for exact rangefinding

Leica Sport Optics has been developing and manufacturing high-quality optoelectronic devices for over 30 years. The name “Geovid” has become a byword for binoculars with laser rangefinder. The small handheld rangefinders are in no way inferior to the larger devices in terms of technology and precision – they are simply monocular. During rangefinding, the laser beam’s travel is timed, either as an individual measurement or continuously (scanning mode). The measurement result is displayed within a fraction of a second. Leica’s vast experience ensures accuracy and reliable operation even in very difficult conditions, such as rainy weather.

Ballistics and tracking programs for a safe shot and optimum orientation

The Leica Rangemaster CRF Pro is equipped with a powerful ballistics program from Applied Ballistics® as well as sensors for angle, air pressure, and temperature, whose measured values are also taken into account. Crosswind data can be imported from a Kestrel® device via Bluetooth® or entered manually. This results in ultimate precision for point-of-impact correction.

Via wireless connection to the Leica Ballistics App, the tracking system Leica ProTrack (LPTTM) can use the range and direction data calculated by the Leica Rangemaster CRF Pro. Navigation is via a simple compass needle or terrain maps. With the compass needle, the direction of travel can be clearly determined. In Google Maps®, the target point is set by a pin, and the BaseMap® app can also be used for tracking. The hunter can even see the position of the target embedded in a graphical terrain. This makes the approach easy and safe, even under challenging conditions.
